If you ever send stories to Instapaper via NNW’s iPhone app, how do you access them? Where do they go? I have the Instapaper app, but my stories don’t show up there, and I don’t recall giving NNW my Instapaper account credentials. It’s a cool feature of the app, and I’d like to take advantage of it.

It’s an interesting point. Makes me wonder – just how attached am I to the iPhone? In fact, what the iPhone has done is make me more attached to the underlying digital properties that are now much easier to access: Twitter, Wordpress, Google Reader, Pandora…hell, I even started a tumblelog just because I downloaded the Tumblr app on a whim one day…so whether or not I’m addicted to the device, the iPhone has definitely cemented my status as a digi-junkie.

Now if you’ll excuse me, my friends are wondering when I’ll return to our real-life conversation.

I digress – I dig the iPhone. And yet, out of the corner of my eye I can see the next toy – the Amazon Kindle. The price had always been a buzzkill though. When i openly mused about it on Twitter, my friend Alison sent me this rather engaging article on the Kindle from the New Yorker. After reading it, I figured the Kindle for iPhone app would be a good first step, and I downloaded it with the thought that it might keep me from parting with $359

Indeed. I’m very happy with it thus far. Everything about the experience has been satisfactory if not excellent. I downloaded “The Histories” by Herodotus, which was quite easy with Amazon 1-click. Black words on a brightly-lit white background with about 18 or so lines of text per screen – really easy reading experience. And it’s pretty light on the battery. You can move between pages by either sliding the touch screen or by tapping the lower right or left side of the page. It’s quite easy – I’m gliding through the book, despite it being roughly eleventy thousand pages long.

Bigger picture, my Kindle experience has raised a question – is there any form of media that I can’t consume via the iPhone now? I read, listen to music, watch TV (via the TV.com app)…it’s just amazing to me that so much content I value can be accessed through one screen. It remains to be seen though if I’ll continue to get that content so cheaply…
